Angel Bins Shoes

We welcome the conversations that this fundraiser started.

Recently, Haiti Today advertised a campaign to collect previously loved and lived in athletic shoes for Angel Bins, a for-profit recycling company that helps schools and other charitable organizations raise money through the recycling of shoes. Controversy ensued.

While HaitiToday is not all about controversy, we are about conversations – about Haiti, about poverty, about sustainability, about building strong families and communities.

In the world of Foreign Aid today, there is much debate about the best and worst ways to offer aid, or whether or not to even give at all. The used clothing and shoes industry in countries like Rwanda, Haiti, and Ethiopia is a robust market, providing many people with jobs, impacting local economies. However, many fear that the availability of second hand clothing/shoes, which can be purchased at a significantly lower price than new items, devastate local clothing industries and over time slow the growth of economies and cause too much reliance on the Western world.

HaitiToday is a small non-profit supporting Haitian inspired short term projects through fundraising. We join with our Haitian neighbors in asking questions and finding solutions. We encourage our supporters to be generous – whether that is through giving of in-kind items or money. And, we make decisions with what is given to us that are well thought out and wise, believing that we are building sustainable futures in Haiti.

Our “Donate for a cause” shoe collection ended September 30th, 2017. We are thankful for all who contributed shoes. Click here to learn more about Angel Bins. We are hopeful that the money raised will help our Haitian friends begin or continue projects that will bring income and stability. We are thankful for all who raised concerns about shoe collections and the possible impact on developing nations. Click here to learn more about the foreign aid controversy.

We are grateful for all who have contributed to our fundraising efforts, through our Butterfly Ball, through our Yeti raffle, through individual donations and through our shoe collections. One hundred percent of all funds raised support Haitians. Read about our funded programs. We will continue to search out new ways to raise funds for Haitian inspired short term projects. We will research and learn, think and re-think, act and re-act, as we continue to seek and secure funds in support of our neighbors in Haiti.
