Latrine Project
Successful Funding.

The funds we raised helped build latrines at eleven homes in Lascahobas.** This project provided work for a team of Haitian builders under the direction of "Bossman" Roger.

A twelve foot hole was dug by hand and lined with rocks. Costing about $700 each, the latrine has a concrete slab floor, cement block walls, tin roof and a wooden door for privacy.
"Why latrines are so important, you may ask?"

Most Haitian homes in Lascahobas, a rural market town in the central plateau, do not have plumbing or even a pit latrine.

The price is especially high for the children - compromised health, malnutrition and even death. Children also miss valuable time at school which can result in a continued cycle of poverty.

In addition, women - from teenagers to the elderly - are vulnerable to physical danger due to the lack of privacy.

**These homes had been built between 2008-14 by Church of the Redeemer's Haiti Ministry, where H.A.I.T.I. board members became dedicated to helping our Haitian sisters and brothers.
