Your donation will help us continue assistance to Joanne Jean Louis &Ricardo, Nadege & Jocelyne plus future Heartline initiatives.

Joanne Jean Louis & Ricardo

Joanne’s sister, who lives in Port au Prince, is very ill. Joanne’s mother moved to Port au Prince to take care of the sister. Joanne is still living in Jacmel with her son, Ricardo. Without her mother there, Joanne is now the main caretaker for six children (some are her siblings, others are extended family members that live in the household) plus Ricardo. Since she has taken on this enormous responsibility, Joanne was unable to attend school this semester. We used  your donation to pay for Ricardo to attend school. Joanne is very thankful for her son to have the opportunity to receive an education. The remaining donation is still designated for Joanne and will be held in her assistance account. When her mother returns to Jacmel, Joanne plans on returning to school. The Heartline staff in Haiti will continue to communicate with Joanne and will assess if she has other needs at this time. Once we have a clearer picture of what these needs are, we will let you know so that you can decide if you would like to make a second donation in January or would like to reserve those funds for a different purpose.

Nadege & Jocelyne

Nadege lives in a home with her mother Jocelyne - who is paralyzed from the waist down. Heartline’s Discipleship and Outreach team has visited Nadege and Jocelyne several times this fall - they have delivered food and cleaning supplies and spent time gaining a deeper understanding of the family’s situation. Land rights are a complex issue in Haiti and currently Jocelyne and Nadege do not have a title for their land, which means that they could potentially have issues with someone else claiming ownership of the land that their house is on or trying to kick them out. Heartline would like to use your donation to pay for the notary and registration of the land to ensure that their right to their land is protected. Additionally, it has come to our attention that the lack of separate space in the home is a major issue for Nadege and Jocelyne. The home is currently only one shared room, and in order for them to continue living together, it is important to have some separate space. We would like to use funds from your donation to either add a room onto the house or add a partition that will give them each some privacy in the home. This is essential for Nadege’s mental and emotional health, and Jocelyne’s safety. Once we settle the land registration matter and address the need for separate space in the home, we would like to use the remaining funds to repair the roof and improve their latrine/outhouse.
